Snowdonia National Park

Snowdon is part of the Snowdonia National Park which covers approximately eight hundred and fifty square miles; it runs from near Conwy on the North Coast to near Caernafon on the western edge.

The mountains of Snowdonia with their tall peaks and soaring cliff faces can keep walking and climbing enthusiasts occupied and happy for days.

Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales and it attracts thousands of visitors a year. The Glyders and Tryfan are two other mountains you may wish to climb; they give marvelous views over Snowdon.

Thousands of hikers come here to enjoy some of the country’s best walks; this area is well geared up for most outdoor activities. Many of you Mountain enthusiasts will have heard of Llanberis, three of the routes up Snowdon start about five miles east of here.

To get the most out of your visit call at the tourist office in Llanberis and get the details on the many activities on offer around here, you can participate in a variety of things such as canoeing, abseiling, pony trekking and guided walks to name just some that may be of interest to you. There are also some paths and tracks open to cyclists.

If you prefer a less strenuous holiday break in this area you can take a ride on the steam train or have a leisurely ramble there is splendid scenery to see and enjoy.

You can also take the opportunity to visit a copper or slate mine; there are some in the area that are open to the public and have tours which are informative and worth seeing.

North Wales was once the slate exporting capital of the world in Llanberis you should make time to visit the Welsh Slate Museum which is housed in Victorian workshops.

There is plenty of accommodation in the town and nearby depending on your preference and of course budget, camping is on offer also B B’s and hotels the choice is yours.

There are many more mountaineers visiting Snowdonia in the winter months to climb on the ice and snow as well as a little ski and snowboard activity..

Snowdonia has many beautiful areas of countryside as well as the famous mountains, to offer its visitors. There are lovely coastal villages with sandy beaches, waterfalls, rivers and lakes, you will not be disappointed.
